Tracy and Eric’s Top 10 Worship Planning Reminders

Remember in your planning that this is a camping worship service, a part of what the camp does together as a community, and is an expression of giving thanks to God for our camping experience.

  1. Make it relevant. Pay attention to the age of the campers (be sure your language and the song choices are appropriate) and be sure it connects to the program and activities of the week.
  2. Explore one theme, and have everything relate to it. This may include transforming the worship space with colour or candles.
  3. Don’t be afraid to be creative (use drama, dance, paint, etc.)
  4. Try to appeal to as many senses as possible (ie read a story, have background music, and have someone paint it).
  5. Include lots of music — some lively (with actions) and some peaceful.
  6. Use inclusive language to refer to the gathered people and to God in all prayers and music.
  7. Involve the community in planning and in the service. Identify and use people’s gifts!
  8. Make it interactive to involve the people who are worshipping — include time for people to offer their joys and concerns.
  9. Use a "child-friendly" translation of the Bible for reading the scripture.
  10. Make it fun and engaging — people should leave feeling good!
